Survivor-centric approach
In the past years, a survivor-centric approach has guided the approach to prosecuting CRSV on both the national and international justice level as well as outside the legal arena. Nowadays, survivors are central to the way justice is implemented. For example, several protocols have been developed that take victims/survivors’ interests at heart when investigating and prosecuting these crimes (see subsection “investigation and prosecution”).
Another example is SEMA. The SEMA network is composed of survivors of CRSV from around the world. They come together, which brings them strength, solidarity, and possibilities to raise awareness and advocate for improvements in the fight against impunity of CRSV (both nationally and globally). One of their slogans is “Nothing about us, without us.”
